The Bottom Line About Meditation

As a holistic healing practice, we support all types of methods for healing. We not only help our clients dig through the past and peel back layers of pain, we also help to give them tools so they can tackle each day with the necessary support. One of those such tools is meditation. So what exactly is meditation and is there research to support it?

Actually, there is. “Meditation is a mind and body practice that has a long history of use for increasing calmness and physical relaxation, improving psychological balance, coping with illness, and enhancing overall health and well-being. Mind and body practices focus on the interactions among the brain, mind, body, and behavior. Some research suggests that practicing meditation may reduce blood pressure, symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety and depression, and insomnia. Evidence about its effectiveness for pain and as a smoking-cessation treatment is uncertain.”
